About the Author Jane Austen was born on December 16, 1775 at Steventon, England. She was the seventh child of the rector of the parish at Steventon, and lived with her family until they moved to Bath when her father retired in 1801. Her father, Reverend George Austen, was from Kent and attended the Tunbridge School before studying at Oxford and receiving a living as a rector at Steventon. Her mother, Cassandra Leigh Austen, was the daughter of a patrician family. Among her siblings she had but one sister, Cassandra, with whom she kept in close contact her entire life. Her brothers entered a variety of professions: several joined the clergy, one was a banker, while several more spent time in the military. It was a terrible situation for her at that time and it was difficult to juggle studies with family but she kept struggling until her graduation! This was a line that decided to be risque and daring, much like the life I was destined to lead. It also marked a major landmark for sports news casting because CBS announced that it was expanding its roster of announcers and looking for black announcers. CBS was taking a step forward in race relations and breaking down established cultural barriers by making that announcement. I could perhaps claim that my birthday was a day that boundaries in fashion and culture were broken. Finally, what would my birthday be like it consumerism was not celebrated and heralded at its finest for my birthday was the same day that Coach decided to launch its new model bag that would become the hippest bag in the United States that summer. Life on the Color Line Life on the Color Line is a memoir by Gregory Howard Williams talking about his life and what it was like to grow up in Muncie, Indiana as a white colored boy. Buster let his children know that both the whites and the blacks would want to fight them and they would just have to fight back and stand strong against everybody. Growing up, the boys continuously got in fights with both races until some members of the black community finally accepted that they were one of them. When the boys were forced to go live with their alcohol dependent grandmother, things turned worse for them because they hardly had anything to eat. Their father came back empty handed and spent nights and days drinking and gambling with their grandmother and other members of the community that had a bottle of wine to offer. Since all Buster wanted was a quick scheme to get rich and ouldnt hold a real job, the boys often had to fend for themselves and learn how to be â€Å"hustlers. † Growing up, Greg often had to act as a father to both his father and his little brother luckily with the help of a church woman named Miss Dora. Knowing he wanted out of the Muncie life, Greg did everything possible to achieve his dreams and hardly let his good judgement falter. Even though Greg was a top student and athlete he often didn’t get recognized for his hard work and was continuously let down by the school system. Examples of this can be viewed during his early years when he should’ve received an award that only â€Å"white† children got at the school and in highschool when he was made second string to a white quarterback in football after he clearly displayed that he was the better quarterback. The few teachers that did notice his intelligence gave Greg hope and courage that he could do something with his life while others put him down and dismissed his dreams of being a lawyer. Many other teachers and counselors also used their authority to make sure Greg knew white women were off limits to him even though he himself looked white on the outside. Since it was made clear that white women were off limits, Greg attempted to date black women but he soon realized that that made others uncomfortable as well. Throughout his life Greg faced many injustices such as these and was always torn about whether he was black or white seeing it as two different parts of him. It wasn’t until he got older that Greg realized he was both and that it made him who he is. Without the kindness of Miss Dora and Greg’s determination to work hard and be a lawyer, Muncie would have probably taken him victim. Towards the end of the book, Greg is able to graduate from highschool and go to college but in order to pay for school he applies for a job at the sheriffs department. Greg becomes conflicted about whether or not to take the job because it looked like they just wanted to use him as an example of a black man having some authority. It’s then that my favorite quote that I feel sums the book up is mentioned by cousin Jewitt, â€Å"Nobody in Muncie ever gave you any breaks just because you looked white† (272). Life On the Color Line is a book about struggling through the hardships of life as well as overcoming prejudice in order to achieve your dreams.

Research on teacher leadership argues that supervisory leadership is a characteristic of instructional leadership (Hulpia Devos, 2010). However, it empirical research shows that autocratic leaders reduce the stability, satisfaction and feelings of motivation within a group of followers. (Van Vugt, Jepson, Hart, De Cremer, 2004). As discussed above, these leaders fall low on the axis of the grid that presents concern for people. So their priority for satisfaction, motivation and comfort of the followers is minimum reducing effectiveness in performance. (Judge et al., 2004). In a study where followers motivation and satisfaction were two dependent variables checked against autocratic leadership, it was found that people do not favor autocratic leaders(Cremer, 2006). According to the study this was so because autocratic leaders donot give sufficient attention to followers and so fail to motivate them to participate, exhibit loyalty, or contribute positively towards the group. The Impoverished or the Indifferent Style. Leaders who fall in this category have low concerns for both people and production. They either adopt a very lazy approach or simply try to avoid getting into any trouble. Up to date, there has been little effort to research or study this leadership style, instead literature on leadership is concentrated of effective and ideal leadership styles. Destructive leadership behavior is defined as the systematic and repeated behavior by a leader, supervisor or manager that violates the legitimate interest of the organization by undermining and/or sabotaging the organizations goals, tasks, resources, and effectiveness and/or the motivation, well-being or job satisfaction of his/her subordinates. (Einarsen, Aasland, Skogstad, 2007) According to this definition the leader does not deliberately harm the subordinates or doesnt intend to do so rather he is thoughtless, incompetent as well as ignorant.( Einarsen, et al. 2007). They take care of their followers at the expense of the welfare of the organization often by interacting with them on a personal level, or by giving them favors and rewards that are not part of the organizations judgment. (Einarsen, et al. 2007) these leaders may be giving more benefits to the subordinates than they are obliged to and this is done at the cost of the company. They may be stealing resources in form of time or finance from the work place. (Altheide et al., 1978; Ditton, 1977). They are of the opinion that if the employees are happy, they tend to be more motivated to work hard and achieve organizational efficiency. It is argued in their article that both the styles show overriding concern to establish good relations with the subordinate. These leaders lack strategic competence and so support values and beliefs that are not consistent with those focused by the organization. Irrespective of that, they may be able to maintain a good relationship with the followers. Such leaders easily gain popularity amongst their followers and are often considered them by as good leaders. It is also argued in previous studies that the intention of supportive disloyal leaders is not to harm the organization; they just believe acting in the particular way discussed above will bring benefit to it.
